Benefits of Bringing Your Baby to the Chiropractor

A couple of weeks ago, I had the pleasure of meeting and taking care of the sweetest baby, Rowan. One of the most common misconceptions when it comes to adjusting a baby is that they receive the same treatment as an adult. A chiropractic adjustment on a newborn is one of the most amazing and gentle things you’ll see, as most babies don’t even realize they’re with a “doctor.”

To correct a misalignment in a newborn, all it takes is just some ever so slight finger tip pressure. Most people do not realize that the birthing experience can be a lot for our little ones and misalignments (subluxations) do happen. Did you know that 99% of infants have a cervical subluxation directly after birth? The pressure from contractions can put a lot of stress on the head and neck of your baby.

Getting their little bones in alignment can make a huge difference in your baby’s health and overall mood.

Here are some things to look out for that your newborn may need a trip to the chiro:

  • Only breastfeeding on one side

  • Constipation

  • Excessive spit up

  • Colic

While the above signs are what you should look for when questioning if you should bring your newborn into the chiropractor, misalignments can manifest in many different ways. Chronic ear infections, sleep patterns, trouble latching during breastfeeding, and a misshaped head or head tilting are a few more symptoms that you should be on the lookout for.

I know that bringing your new baby into the chiropractor sounds crazy, but trust me when I say that having your little one get adjustments can help regulate the nervous system to keep pressure off the system and allow your baby’s body to work at 100%. You’d be surprised to learn that most babies actually fall asleep during an adjustment. That’s how gentle the treatment is.
