3 Tips For A Happy & Healthy Summer
As we prepare to celebrate the stars and stripes, I want to share my top 3 tips to make sure you and your family have a safe and healthy holiday! Before you head to the store to stock up on burgers, dogs, and brews, check out this quick list and see if there’s anything you need to add.
Hydration: Now that we are in the HOTTEST months of the year, it’s even more important to take extra steps to make sure you and your loved ones are taking in enough water! Try to keep water with you at all times, and follow this general rule of thumb: Drink roughly ⅔ of your body weight in ounces daily (175 lb would drink about 117 oz/day). One of my personal hydration favorites is coconut water, because it will naturally replenish your electrolytes as well!
Sun Protection: While we all need a healthy dose of vitamin D, prolonged sun exposure can lead to serious complications. Natural sunscreens are my go to, and I always make sure to wear a hat and sunglasses! Additionally, knowing the signs of heat exhaustion and heat stroke could save a life, so take a quick second to look over this link from WebMD and familiarize yourself on the topic.
Critter and Plant Safety: We can’t forget about the possibility of allergic reactions during this outdoor season. Natural bug sprays can keep pests at bay, and there are also all natural bug repellent candles in many stores. In the case of a bite, sting, or run in with a poisonous plant, it is also a good idea to keep something like Benadryl (both adult and children) on deck at all times. In cases of serious allergic reaction, this could be life saving!
Cheers to a safe, happy, and healthy summer!
