3 Things That Have Helped Me As A Small Business Owner

I know you’re sitting on the edge of your seat waiting the latest health tip, but today I would like to step away from my norm and touch on something that is also near and dear to me: National Small Business Week! I have always envisioned myself in the health field as a healthcare provider, but never really thought of myself as a “business owner.” Many years of school and few thousand Instagram followers later, here I am! I’ve enjoyed every minute of the path that has lead me to this point, but let me tell you, it has been a GRIND. There are over 30 million small businesses in the United States today that employ over 59 million people, and it is SO motivating to think about the fact that they all started with one person who said, “all right, let’s do this!”

I have recently had the opportunity to record some podcasts about starting a small business, and in each of them we have discussed  ups and downs, tips for success, and words of encouragement for others contemplating opening a business. There is so much to be said about each of these things. One thing that stands out to me the most is the amount of RESPECT I have for everyone who has taken this leap of faith, because it’s scary (but rewarding!) On that note, I will leave you with a few thoughts that have helped me the most:

  1. Embrace your Individuality: What is the difference between your business and everyone else’s? YOU. Don’t ever be afraid to add your own unique and individual twist on things. It will set you apart.

  2. Know your business in and out: Of course everyone wants to do the fun stuff, but you NEED to know the “boring stuff” too. Stay late, run the numbers, do your paperwork, brainstorm, etc. You should be able to fill every position at your business!

  3. Stress is not ALWAYS a bad thing: It means you care. No one gets anywhere in life with a nonchalant attitude. Take a deep breath, and keep going!

Are you a small business owner? What has helped you succeed? Let’s share tips and help each other thrive!
